Mulackstraβe

Deemed Berlin’s ‘secret fashion street’, Mulackstraβe is a great place to come and sample some of the city’s street style, whether it be from the leather-clad fashionistas pacing the pavements or within the independent boutiques themselves. Although at first glance this street doesn’t look much, its stores house items from some of Berlin’s best designers as well as those from around the world. The effort put into the interior design of these shops matches the care taken into the design of the clothes, which in themselves range from crazy to chic. Starstyling, for example, feels like you’ve stepped into some sort of psychedelic urban jungle. Holographic pretzel t-shirts and latex skirts hang amongst its neon fringed lamps and oversized potted plants.

For those less adventurous with their style, Mulackstraβe offers a wealth of minimalist designs with the likes of Baerck and A.P.C. Here you can find clean lines and classic styles aplenty. If you’re wanting something beyond the rails and rails of designer clothing, Fête de la Boutique also offers cosmetics, interior decorations and books. Another highlight of the street is Das Neue Schwarz, an upmarket thrift store selling vintage designer pieces where you can hunt for one-of-a-kind finds. There are no shoddy second-hand items here, it’s purely high fashion. Everything has its own label, from Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent to Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.

As is crucial for a day of shopping, there are plenty of equally fashionable cafés and restaurants to grab a quick coffee or a sit down lunch. Have a unique tea break in the Japanese tea house that is Mamecha, or dine with Berlin’s hip locals at Klub Kitchen, where a weekly-changing menu is rumoured to stun your tastebuds. For something a bit different, head to Môt District – an authentic Vietnamese restaurant where its tropical façade is almost as enticing as the street food it sells inside. Although beware, authentic it definitely is – offerings include silk worms. Mulackstraβe is an essential visit for anyone needing some retail therapy. Make sure you bring your purse though, some of these designs come with hefty price tags.
